We had a smooth first week of school! We are delighted to see everyone back.
Here are a few important reminders:
Lockers:
- While many students learned how to open their lockers on their own last week, others are still having some trouble. Here is a one minute video if you wish to watch how to open a lock. If you have a combination lock at home, it would be a good idea to practice on it this weekend. You would follow the same steps but with different numbers.
Backpacks Must Stay in Lockers During the School Day:
- We ask all students to leave their backpacks in their lockers during the school day. If you have a locker jam, notify your teachers or the office and our engineers will help take care of it….but we want all backpacks to remain in your lockers starting this week.
- Think ahead to which classes you have and take the items needed for those class(es). The skill of being able to “plan and prepare” is a great one to build now because successful people are great at it.
Open House on Wednesday, September 7 at 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
- As I mentioned in the morning announcements this past Thursday, parents who attend Open House will enter a raffle drawing. They will get their raffle tickets by the main lobby. The students whose parents attend Open House will get a “FastPass” in the lunch line for a week.
- We will have the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) members in the main hallway signing parents up to join. I encourage students, parents, and staff to join. This devoted group does a lot for our school so we should really help support them. Thanks!
Schedule Next Week:Monday, September 5:
- No School Today- Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend!
Tuesday, September 6
- School resumes today after Labor Day Weekend– School starts at 8:25 AM
- National “Read a Book Day”
- A book that I really enjoyed and found very inspirational is titled “Of Beetles and Angels” by Selamawi Asgedom. This is an autobiography (which is a true story that the author wrote about their own life experiences) explaining how a young boy fled a civil war in Ethiopia and arrived in America, works hard in school, and years later is giving the graduation speech at Harvard University. I recommend this book to all of my Stout students. I will have a couple of copies in my office for students to check out. See Mrs. Abdelbaki if you would like to borrow a copy of this book.
Wednesday, September 7
- Open House at Stout Middle School– 6:00 PM-7:30 PM- We want to see you and your parents at Stout so they can meet your teachers and see what great things you will be learning this year.
Thursday, September 8
- “International Literacy Day”
- Please read a book or article to your family tonight (parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.) It could be something from school or a book that you have at home that you enjoyed.
Friday, September 9
- Happy Friday! End the school week strong by working hard in all of your classes!
