Author of a published children’s book titled, Under the Sana’a Skyline, spoke to students in our Creative Writing classes at Stout Middle School on Friday. This was a real treat for our 6th grade students.
Mrs. Salwa Mawari explained the process that she took that led an idea she had to an actual published story book. She also took time to describe the process of publishing books if students ever wanted to publish their own books in the future. She talked about how an author must write rough drafts, rewrite stories over and over, find editors, illustrators, publishing companies, etc.) Mrs. Mawari’s book is sold on Amazon. She is also a teacher in Dearborn Public Schools. She ended her visit with an engaging writing activity that students enjoyed and shared out loud in front of the class.
