STOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Construction on Oakwood Boulevard

Dear Stout Parents & Community,

Welcome back to the start of a new school year! If you have been by Stout Middle School over the summer, you have certainly noticed that the county is currently in the middle of a major road construction project on Oakwood Boulevard. This includes the portion of Oakwood that is directly in front of Stout. Please read through the information that follows to help ensure that our students safely get to and from school this year.

For those walking to school, we ask that students only cross Oakwood at the stop light at Oakwood and Hollywood. There is a crossing guard before and after school and there will be an increased police presence at this intersection during the first week of school. We also ask that all students stay away from the construction area and any construction equipment.

Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction and left turns are not permitted. This means that you can not turn left off of Oakwood to get to Stout. Additionally, when leaving Stout, you can not turn left onto Oakwood to leave. Only right turns may be used to enter and exit the parking lots and front drive at Stout. Please note that the South parking lot will not be available for drop off or pick up while there is construction on Oakwood in front of Stout. Strongly consider the following recommendations for traveling to and from Stout.

If you are traveling from/to the Maples or Geer Park Neighborhoods:

  • To get to Stout, take the Southfield Freeway to Oakwood. Turn right off of Oakwood into the the front driveway to drop off in front of the school or take the second driveway into the parking lot.
  • When leaving Stout, exit using the third driveway (closest to the football field), turn right onto Oakwood, then right onto Rotunda to return home.

If you are traveling from/to the Snow Neighborhood:

  • To get to Stout, take Hollywood to Oakwood and safely turn left onto Oakwood at the light. Please watch for students crossing Oakwood, before you turn. Turn right off of Oakwood into the the front driveway to drop off in front of the school or take the second driveway into the parking lot.
  • When leaving Stout, exit using the third driveway (closest to the football field), turn right onto Oakwood, then left onto Rotunda to return home.

If you are traveling from/to the Miller Neighborhood:

  • To get to Stout, take the Southfield Freeway to Oakwood or take I-94 to Oakwood. Turn right off of Oakwood into the the front driveway to drop off in front of the school or take the second driveway into the parking lot.
  • When leaving Stout, exit using the third driveway (closest to the football field), turn right onto Oakwood, then right onto Rotunda to return home

If you are traveling on Rotunda coming from/past Edsel Ford HS:

  • To get to Stout, drive past Oakwood on Rotunda and look for an unmarked road on the right side of Rotunda. This road will take you to the light on Oakwood located in front of Beaumont Hospital. You can turn right at the light onto Oakwood, then turn right off of Oakwood into the the front driveway to drop off in front of the school or take the second driveway into the parking lot.
  • When leaving Stout, exit using the third driveway (closest to the football field), turn right onto Oakwood, then left or right onto Rotunda depending on your destination.

If you are attempting to enter the front driveway to drop off your child and there is too much traffic to enter, please drive down to the second driveway to avoid causing a backup on Oakwood. When using the second driveway to drop off or pick up, please safely park in the lot. Do not park along the North side of the building where our buses drop students off. Also, please note that all three driveways are one way. When traveling North on Oakwood, the front driveway and second driveway are “enter only”. The third driveway, by the football field is “exit only”.

The construction on Oakwood will be a major inconvenience for our school community for several months. With your assistance and patience, we can make this difficult situation better and ensure that all students get safely to school and home from school.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

Gregory Oke
