STOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Dearborn Virtual Program & Back-to-School Plan

Dear Parents,

We hope this message finds you safe and healthy. As you know, the situation with the pandemic continues to change daily which impacts the decisions regarding school in the Fall. Please read through the following information carefully.

Yesterday, the Board of Education voted on 3 options:

  1. All students online with some learning labs for social emotional or academic needs.
  2. Elementary students 100% in class, secondary 100% online with learning labs for social emotional or academic needs.
  3. Hybrid for elementary and secondary students with some face-to-face instruction and some online.

The Board voted to go with option 1: all students will start school in the Fall ONLINE with some learning labs for social emotional or academic needs. The board’s decision was not an easy one and came after a long deliberation and discussion with all stakeholders during a study session. This option will be in place for the month of September and will be re-evaluated for October. At that point, the district will decide how to move forward based on the governor’s executive order, CDC recommendations, as well as local and regional health authorities. They may extend remote learning or transition students back to in-person learning.

The district is also offering parents a Virtual Learning Program option for those who want their child to participate in online schooling for the entire 2020-2021 school year. Opting into this program means that you are committing to a full academic year of online learning, regardless of the Governor’s decision about whether or not students will return to school. An application for the Virtual Learning Program will be available through the district website on Friday, August 14th, if you are choosing this option. If you prefer to do this in-person or need assistance with registration for this program, Stout administrators and staff will be on hand to support on Wednesday, August 12th, from 9am to 3pm. If you have questions please feel free to contact the building on that day.
