Reel Stories: Empowering Young Women through the Art of Filmmaking

reelstoriesThe Arab American National Museum (AANM) is pleased to announce a wonderful opportunity for young women at the museum this fall starting in October! It is a FREE arts program, Reel Stories: Empowering Young Women through the Art of Filmmaking. It is a Museums Connect project, an initiative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and a joint program with the Palestinian Heritage Museum in East Jerusalem.

The program will bring together 40 young women who are interested in film making, 20 from metro Detroit and 20 from East Jerusalem. Participants will learn the art of film making, through a 20-week intensive program that includes technical skill-building in film production, facilitated dialogues on identity and gender empowerment, and participation in an immersive cultural exchange via social media and public programming.

Reel Stories will be lead by experienced local and international film makers and editors, and will entail the production two short films by students. The program will culminate in a series of public film screenings and an exhibition at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, and at the Palestinian Heritage Museum in East Jerusalem.

20 young women ages 14 to 17 will be selected to participate in this competitive program through a rigorous online application. Application deadline is Monday, Oct 3 at 5:00PM
