Summer Learning

All middle school students in the Dearborn Public Schools must complete some form of summer learning. Information about each program, including which students must attend the program, is provided below. Students are only required to participate in one summer learning program.

 

Tuition-based Summer School

Who: 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who failed two or more core academic classes (math, language arts, social studies, or science) on their year-end grades must attend and pass this summer school program in order to be promoted to the next grade.

Where: Dearborn High School

When: 8:30 – 11:15, June 28th through July 21st (No school on July 3rd or July 4th)

Notes: Tuition is $125 for one class and $250 for two classes. Transportation is not provided. Registration forms were mailed to the houses of students who are currently failing two or more core classes.

 

Middle School Blended Learning Summer Program

Who: 6th and 7th grade students who are two or more grade-levels behind in reading and/or math as measured by the NWEA assessments.

Where: Stout Middle School and online at home

When: 9:00 – 12:00, June 19th, June 20th, and August 7th through August 10th are required attendance dates. Any student not keeping up with their assigned work will be asked to attend on June 28th, July 12th, July 19th, July 26th, August 2nd, and/or August 14th through August 17th.

Notes: There is no cost for this program. Transportation is only provided on June 19th, June 20th, and August 17th through August 20th. This is an online learning program with some teacher support. Registration forms were mailed to the houses of students who qualify for this program, and registration forms were also given directly to students.

 

Middle School Summer Learning

Who: 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students who are not participating in another form of summer learning.

Where: Online at home

When: Throughout the summer

Notes: Students are required to complete at least 20 hours of online learning and read three books of their choosing. This is an online learning program without teacher support. Teachers showed students how to access the online learning in class.

 

Accelerated Summer Academic Program

Who: English Language Learners (by recommendation only)

Where: Stout Middle School

When: 9:00 – 2:00, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 – 12:00 on Fridays. July 10th through July 28th
